Experimental Film

  • Start

“Goldsmiths Experimental Film Students learn to become visual storytellers, universal communicators, and explorers of a medium with a growing community of practitioners who challenge form and content.

These works represent the breadth and range of students’ interests and approaches, from music video, experimental fiction to hybrid forms and beyond. They explore the boundaries of genre and what moving image can do, theoretically, politically, aesthetically and affectively. Each work engages critically with form and context, drawing on theory not as something separate, but explored through practice.

They are taught theory and practice with roots in scripted narrative, documentary, anthropology, and art. The films you see here are representative of the panoply of voices in our cohort. They are required to research, write, produce, shoot, and direct. We work them hard, and they’ve all risen to the challenge.”
