Screen Fiction

  • Start

“Screen (Film) Fiction students learn to tell compelling stories through moving images.

Drawing on both classical and experimental approaches to filmmaking, they explore the craft of storytelling in the digital age. All the students pitch their responses to the brief.  The group then choose which films will go into production. Working in teams, they take on specialist roles such as Director, Producer, Cinematographer, Sound Recordist, or Editor, reflecting real-world industry practice.

The year is structured around intensive collaborative work — developing scripts, planning shoots, and finally bringing the stories to life through filming and editing. Peer-to-peer learning and critical feedback are central, as students sharpen technical and conceptual skills appropriate for working in a dynamic and fast-evolving screen industry.

The 24/25 cohort have made excellent progress using the rigors of film making to progress their knowledge learning through practice to consolidate skills across the three phases of production and, widening their parameters within this specialism. The BA3 students have all made exciting contributions covering a wide range of themes/genres.

This year there is something for everyone from horror, comedy, thriller, and experimental approaches to scripted short form outputs. It’s been a pleasure to teach level 6 and witness their growth.”
