Stuck In Between

Inspired by dreams and the surreal, this project explores the use of on-camera effects and low-budget props to create optical illusions that transport the viewers to a dreamlike environment.
The aim is to portray the blurring of the lines that separate reality and fantasy from one another, everyday we dream and often question, was there a meaning behind that dream? Have I seen that face before? Dreams can be seen as fleeting memories, thoughts that quickly disappear once we regain consciousness, they can feel frustrating and claustrophobic as we struggle to grasp what is truly there.
Interpreting ‘dream state’ as a transitioning point between consciousness and the unconscious thoughts we experience. Through the photographs within the booklet, I wanted to encapsulate that feeling of the unknown and the loneliness we experience inside our minds. By creating an absence of regular bodies I was able to draw attention to the eeriness of the spaces captured, as well as emphasising the feeling of an out of body experience where our minds and bodies become disconnected at once.
