This work originated from the observations I made whilst studying in the UK. As I experienced two cultural perspectives, I realised that we live in entirely different worlds of digital information. However, the phenomena such as instant gratification, surveillance, and addiction brought by social media surpass national borders and affect everyone.
Regardless of our cultural background, we are immersed in the overwhelming flow of information on social media, enjoying a brief stimulus of dopamine, but finding ourselves trapped in the endless cycle of fast-moving content consumption. This mechanism is both fascinating and implicitly disturbing.
In my project, I draw inspiration from Julia Kristeva's "Abjection" theory, hoping to create a push pull scenario - the work is vibrant, attractive, and dangerous, evoking both attraction and disgust. This conflict experience mirrors our attitude toward social media: knowing its potential negative impact, but unable to resist.
