“Prima Che Scenda Il Buio, Per Non Dimenticare” explores memory, grief, and the quiet persistence of absence within my grandparents’ house. After losing both grandparents just before starting university, I turned to photography to process their absence. What began as a documentation of an empty, decaying space evolved into a reflection on intergenerational connection. By incorporating staged portraits of my mum and aunts, the project reanimates the house, shifting the narrative from loss to presence. Blending documentary and constructed imagery, I trace how grief settles into spaces, lingers in objects, and echoes through gestures. The house becomes both a witness and a character, embodying love, memory, and the question of what remains when the people who gave a place meaning are gone.
