Welsh Coal, Welsh Community

"When they close a pit, they kill a community" was one of the most famous protest slogans of the 1984-85 Miners Strike. On the 40th anniversary of the strike, I wanted to reflect on the legacy of Welsh coal. From the loss of economic industry and collective memory of the strike to the spectre of Aberfan and the dangerous coal slag heaps still present today; explored through collective memory of former miners, Amgueddfa Cymru curators, local campaigners, archive footage, and more. I hope you are able to enjoy the piece and take with you the community, camaraderie, and at times tragedy of pit life.

Cymru am byth.
