Blood and Guts

Blood and Guts is a podcast hosted by me, Maisie Kelly, about centring women and other marginalized identities in filmmaking, specifically in horror. I chose to do this because according to a study of 2024’s top grossing films, only 13.4% of them were made by women, 5.3% were made by women of colour, and there weren’t even any statistics on trans and nonbinary people. Each episode, I interview a director and other guests to explore a different sub-genre of horror, and about their experiences in the film industry. Myy aim here is to inspire up and coming filmmakers from any background. This episode is all about body horror, which is a subgenre that focuses on the graphic and disturbing transformation, degeneration, or destruction of the human body, like mutations, mutilation or disease. I interview director Sharon Tan, horror scholar Carina Stopenski, and Mili Beagly, an SFX and makeup artist.
