The Four Thieves

Ellinna Horton

The Four Thieves explores issues surrounding social inequality through a sarcastic Marxist lens - flipping capitalist perspectives and portraying otherwise ‘powerful’ characters as vulnerable, yet antagonistic.

The Four Thieves plots vengeance against the bourgeoisie, as a profetic symbol of how decadent living will someday have its consequences.

The four illustrated sculptures are derived from daily encounters with peo- ple on the street providing a physicality to the otherwise two-dimensional medium of illustration.

The whimsicality of the universe of The Four Thieves offers contrast to its hyper-realist form and as we laugh at the fate of these ‘toffs’, we are reminded of a poignant reality - the working class suffer every day so that ‘characters’ like these can exist unscathed.
