BRUTAL

My project BRUTAL takes inspiration from London’s brutalist architecture. Although the archeticture of the buildings of London is extremely varied, brutalist architecture stood out to me with its seemingly aggressive and imposing aesthetic. Originally, I was only interested in the aesthetics of brutalist archeticture, however, as I began further research, the politics of brutalist architecture was something that became of more of an interest to me. BRUTAL looks to explore the geographical politics of Brutalist architecture, and how the location of the buildings, and in turn the demographic of people the buildings inhabit, shape people’s perception of the buildings and what it means to live on an estate.
