‘The memory of a particular image is but regret for a particular moment’

- Marcel Proust, In Search of Lost Time

Growing up in a village where everyone knows everyone, spending summers swimming in the river, and there’s only one pub to go to at the end of the day. Apple crumble for dessert at Sunday lunch. These are memories specific to one of my versions of home. The project deals with battling between feelings of belonging and estrangement. It’s an exploration of what home is to me through photographing where I grew up. It’s a project about questioning nostalgia and homesickness for a place that isn’t home anymore. While this photo series is specific to my feelings of detachment and longing, it has been left as an open exploration. There is no ending or narrative. It’s for the people who feel a bit lost where they are. Whether you grew up in a small town or not, we all experience nostalgia and remember being at home.
