Flood Tide: Parable of a Sunken State

In the early hours of July 4th, 202 in Texas' Hill Country, families camped during the holiday weekend, retirees went to bed in their RV’s, and innocent little girls fell asleep in the safety of their summer camp cabins. In minutes flash floods ravaged the Guadalupe River Valley—destroying everything in its path and claiming the lives of 136 people, including 24 children.

Flash Floods aren't uncommon in this part of Texas, but this death toll, this calamity is anything but ordinary.

Why were emergency warnings so delayed? Why was the local government so unprepared? How did the state allow this to happen? And most importantly, what can be done to make sure it doesn’t happen again?

Flood Tide: Parable of a Sunken State is the first episode of an investigative series seeking to answer these questions by talking to the people who watched it happen, and those fighting for justice.
