My project documents the Youshen (deity procession) as a living ritual shaped by movement, atmosphere, and collective participation. Rather than focusing on spectacle, I explore how faith is embodied through physical actions—carrying, walking, praying—and expressed within everyday public space.
Working in challenging conditions such as dense crowds, smoke, and low light, I adapted my approach to capture fleeting moments and shifting atmospheres. I focused on details, gestures, and textures to reveal the relationship between the divine figures and the people around them.
Through this series, I aim to move beyond a purely documentary perspective and instead create a sensory experience of the ritual, where the boundaries between the sacred and the ordinary become blurred.
