In this project, I explored themes of growth, identity, and community through a whimsical picture book set in “Bread Town.” I created the story around Sam, an unfinished dough character whose soft, unformed body represents potential and self-discovery. Surrounded by fully baked villagers with distinct shapes and personalities, Sam appears incomplete at first, yet gradually becomes a source of restoration and hope. Through both narrative and visuals, I wanted to show that value does not come from being “finished,” but from the willingness to contribute and care for others. I used Sam’s stretchy, dough-like form as a unique strength, allowing him to rebuild structures and support the community in ways no one else can. Visually, I combined playful character design with a warm, earthy color palette to create a comforting and inviting world. I used this project to reflect my belief that individuality and imperfection are essential in shaping identity and strengthening communities!
