Vincent Canfora/Kurt Truant
The Gland Prix Series
Vincent Canfora/Kurt Truant is a London-based, British-Brazilian author focused on short stories, prose and cultural essays. Based off his experiences with dual nationalities and gender transition, his writings focus on vulgarity and the shortcomings of masculinity at its most unflattering moments. He also runs a Substack with non-fiction personal essays that approach the Internet's zeitgeist, film and memory through reflections on gender.
The Gland Prix Series is a trilogy exploring insecurity, ambition and pathos in the relationship of the body to its functions. In each story, men are afflicted by their own bodily fluids, which manifest as symptoms of a struggle between identity and materiality. The last story, Circle Jerk (featured on Goldsmiths' student-led Smiths Magazine), explores sexual exchange as a bond between men with very little sense of self. The trilogy reads as scathing scepticism and gallows wit towards men's self-centrality in a world of abandon.
