What is Behind
What is Behind is a performance-based video that explores how emotion can be conveyed through sound, movement, and visual texture rather than narrative. The work draws from a personal experience of loss, where remembrance becomes an ongoing process of acceptance rather than an ending.
The dancer’s body acts as the primary site of expression, with close-ups of skin and gesture emphasising touch and materiality. A white dress appears as a symbolic object, suggesting how physical forms can hold traces of memory. Through experimental choreography, rhythmic sound, and contrasting blue–red lighting, the film moves from tension toward release.
The main film consists of a five-minute performance followed by a one-minute interview with the dancer, reflecting on the choreography and its development. In addition, three separate interviews are presented on the website, extending the project’s exploration of how objects hold and reshape memory through everyday perspectives.
