The summer before university, I lost both my grandparents within two months of each other. Their passing left an absence that felt immeasurable, and photography became my way of coming to terms with what remains after the two leading figures of a family are gone.

Initially, I documented my grandparents’ empty house, focusing on its quiet decay and how its deterioration mirrored our family’s emotional landscape. Later, I incorporated my mum and her sisters, shifting the project from absence to presence—connecting past and present, loss and continuity. Their presence reanimates these spaces, highlighting how grief is carried across generations while life continues.

Once a vibrant gathering place, the house now stands as a quiet witness to our loss. Its decay, much like our grief, is unavoidable, but it also serves as a testament to the richness of the life lived within its walls. Through these images, I explore how loss leaves its mark, yet what remains is love, resilience, and the enduring power of memory.
